Bonne Chance

Koi traditionally represent good luck or courage.  Hence the French name, bonne chance!
It could also be bonne courage.   I love to paint water and reflections.

"Sunlit"

This is a recent painting of the dunes near the new bridge on Pea Island.  The setting sun was touching the dune grasses.  It is a beautiful place, changed once again by Sandy.

Surf studies

Often just study the water as it hits the shore.  I tried to paint a lot of underground color in this one.

recent favorites

I love the swans at Airlie.  This one is a real show off.  He looked beautiful with the sunlight and shadows on his white plumage.

Azalea Festival

On the morning of the ribbon cutting, I arrived early at the McNeill's, and saw the many belles lit by the sunlight in Ronnie and Cyndi's drive.  It was a profusion of color.

Quiet in the harbor

A painting done after a recent visit to Avon Harbor.  It was such a beautiful morning, with lots of sunlight.

more beach paintings....

On a recent trip to Hatteras, I did my usual morning walk on South Beach.  These are two of the paintings that resulted.

and another....

Walking back over the dunes, I caught just a glimpse of this beach house. So typical of the Outer Banks. This was later in the day, and the sun was lighting up the grasses

current favorite...

A morning walk on South Beach at Salvo gave me the chance to see this beautiful mist over the dunes. The telephone poles on Highway 12 make you really aware that this is Hatteras Island.
I love the limited palette...

...and one more

Love the waterlilies. Am convinced I was a geisha in a former life. Have a beautiful oriental wall quilt from my friend, Eileen Williams; I treasure everything Oriental

View from our dock

Love the marshes in east Carolina. I am surrounded by them here. This is one of the docks leading to Eastman Creek, where it meets the ICWW.

Another new one...

...getting ready to take work to the Outer Banks; this one will go to Greenleaf Gallery at Duck.
Haven't done the lighthouses in a long time, but am trying out my new techniques.

and another...

The sky here is where the transparent acrylics are most obvious....

trying something new....

Having recently taken a workshop with Dan Nelson from Raleigh, I am applying what I learned to some new work. Here is the little bird from the last post, done using Dan's underpainting of transparent acrylics which show through (if you let them....) Dan is a fabulous painter as well as a gifted instructor...learned so much from him!

Thinking of summer...

Cannot wait to get back to the Outer Banks this summer...so look forward to time with Kim at "the Pea" and getting to see all the customers who come to visit. In anticipation, I have been doing many beach scenes. Here are some of my favorites so far....
